Four Ring Circus

I read an article about the challenges in balancing marriage, family and work: the so-called three ring circus. When I add writing to the mix it seems more like a four ring circus, and at times this feels like a high wire juggling act.

The first photo was taken during a recent trip to Las Vegas with my wife and a couple friends. Our extended weekend in “Sin City” felt as though we’d run away to the circus. Our time in Vegas was a great escape from reality and responsibility. I drank plenty, ate plenty, and gambled a bit 🙂 The experience felt like an escape from my routine life, into a dreamy world of indulgence and extravagance.

But every dream comes to an eventual end and a return to reality. Lacing up my shoes for a Saturday run on a local trail (second photo) reminded me just how much I value and appreciate my life, with all of its routines.

It’s a constant challenge juggling marriage and family life with work life and writing. But I wouldn’t gamble away this challenge for the world!
