Are We There Yet?
“Are we there yet?” is a question commonly asked on many a journey.
A writer’s journey is no different. Take for instance the writing I’m presently doing for my second novel, BREAKDOWN. At what point will I have reached my final destination? A logical response would be when I have finished writing the final scene of the story. By that standard, I accomplished my objective on March 15, 2015. It’s a good milestone to acknowledge.
However, finishing the story is not my ultimate goal. Turning that story into a completed manuscript and having that manuscript published is my ultimate writing goal. My next objective, then, is to initiate a round or two of self editing. This will be followed in turn by sending the manuscript to professionals for substantive and copy editing, prior to submitting the polished manuscript to the publisher.
So, on the one hand, to answer my original question, I’m not there yet. On the other hand, I tend to believe the message behind the popular quote: “Success is a journey, not a destination.”
I’m on to the next stage of my journey!
