My Writing Mantra
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines mantra as a sound, word or phrase that is repeated by someone who is praying or meditating. It’s an ancient practice that helps create a positive experience such as personal contentment by repetition of focused, conscious desire.
I HAVE A PLAN is my mantra. Those four words serve as a guide, and repeating them helps keep me focused through good times, and provides inspiration and re-assurance through challenging times.
When it comes to my writing life, having a plan refers to smaller goals such as a strategy for upcoming events and plotting scenes, towards the larger goal of publication of my second novel, BREAKDOWN, the follow up story to THE KILLER TRAIL. Of course plans are subject to change, and adjustments may be required but I find it helpful to have a plan as a foundation.
Success for me is measured by the extent to which my writing life is balanced with other parts such as my work life, married life and family life. I know that the road to success includes detours along the way but I’m happy to have a plan to help guide my way.
