“What If” Part 2
My first book, THE KILLER TRAIL, started with a What If question that I blogged about on a February 4, 2012 post: What if you found a phone and tried connecting it to its owner, only to discover that it was evidence of a murder and now the killer had set his sights on you?
My second book, BREAKDOWN, also has a What If question: What if someone charged with a serious crime had evidence that could be used to defend himself, but was helpless to communicate that evidence?
That is the case with Marvin Goodwin, who is a nineteen year old charged with murder after being found at the scene of an ice cream van broken down on the side of a rural road. Marvin lives with autism spectrum disorder, which severely impairs his cognitive capacity and limits his verbal communication to rudimentary words. He’s admitted at the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry (IFP) for an assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial on his criminal charge. IFP social worker, Chris Ryder, begins to suspect that there’s more to the “Ice Cream Killer” case, but the closer he comes to discovering the truth, the more he places his own life in danger.
BREAKDOWN has a number of returning characters from THE KILLER TRAIL, as well as new characters like Marvin Goodwin, that I’m excited to introduce in future blogs.
