Nobody’s Victim

I was recently making a few tweaks to my manuscript for BREAKDOWN. This included a pivotal scene near the end of the story involving the protagonist Chris Ryder and the villain Ray Owens. Chris realizes that he’s grown tired of Ray’s threats and mind games. In this moment he becomes determined not to live his life in fear of Ray. “I’m not your victim. I’m nobody’s victim,” Chris declares defiantly. The scene reflects a change in Chris which could be characterized as one from struggle to resilience. I find the phrase empowering, so much so that I’m considering changing the title of the manuscript to NOBODY’S VICTIM.
